What Are Clay Composite Poker Chips?

Clay composite poker chips are made from clay blended with other materials. The mix makes them tougher than 100% clay chips and allows for crisp inlays, detailed edge molds, and a wider range of weights. All of our 13.5- and 14-gram styles also have a metal insert for extra heft, so every stack feels solid in your hand and sounds right when it hits the pot.

Clay Composite vs. 100% Clay Poker Chips

Clay composite chips are the practical choice for most home games: they hold up well to regular shuffling and stacking, come in heavier weights up to 14 grams, and cost less per roll. 100% clay chips, like Milano, Phoenix, and Jupiter Club, are lighter at 10 to 11 grams and have a softer, textured feel that collectors and serious players often look for. Both are great at the table. The right pick comes down to feel, budget, and how often you play.

Find Your Clay Composite Chip Weight

  • 14 grams with a metal insert: Ace Casino, Ace King Suited, Black Diamond, Crown & Dice, Eclipse, King's Casino, Las Vegas, Monte Carlo, Ultimate, and Yin Yang.
  • 13.5 grams with a metal insert: Claysmith Gaming's Desert Heat, The Mint, Poker Knights, Showdown, and Monaco Club.
  • 11.5 grams: Striped Dice, a mid-weight chip with a blank inlay for custom labels.
  • 8.5 grams: Super Diamond, a light, firm chip for budget-friendly sets.

Clay Composite Poker Chip Styles

Claysmith Gaming Clay Composite Chips

As an authorized Claysmith Gaming reseller, we carry 13.5-gram Claysmith designs with a vintage Las Vegas look. Desert Heat is inspired by the Mirage poker room chip, and The Mint pays tribute to Del Webb's Mint. Poker Knights, Showdown, and Monaco Club share the Sword & Spade mold and include a $2 chip, with values up to $25,000.

Holographic and Bold-Inlay Chips

For bright, easy-to-read stacks, these 14-gram chips feature bold inlay artwork. Ace Casino, Black Diamond, Las Vegas, and Ultimate feature holographic inlays, Yin Yang shows a Royal Flush yin-yang design, and Eclipse uses a black gear inlay with large values.

Classic Casino Chips

King's Casino and Monte Carlo bring a traditional casino look in 14-gram clay composite, each with 12 denominations from 25¢ to $10,000. King's Casino has a royal inlay and laurel filigree edge, and Monte Carlo has a Monte Carlo Poker Club inlay with a triple-crown edge.

Non-Denominated Clay Composite Chips

Assign your own values with Ace King Suited or Crown & Dice, both 14 grams in 9 colors. Striped Dice comes in 10 colors with a blank inlay you can label, and Super Diamond is a lightweight 8.5-gram option in 11 colors.

Clay Composite Chips for Cash Games and Tournaments

For cash games, look for low denominations. Black Diamond, Desert Heat, Eclipse, King's Casino, Monaco Club, Monte Carlo, Poker Knights, Showdown, and The Mint all start at 25¢. For tournaments, Ace Casino, Poker Knights, Showdown, and Monaco Club go up to $25,000, giving you room for deep starting stacks and color-ups. Non-denominated chips work for either, since you decide what each color is worth.

Why Choose Our Clay Composite Poker Chips

  • Denominated and non-denominated: Printed values from 25¢ to $25,000, or colors you assign yourself.

Clay Composite Poker Chips FAQ

Are clay composite poker chips good?

Yes. Clay composite chips are a great choice for most home games. They're durable, come in casino-style weights, and cost less per roll than 100% clay chips, so you can build a full set without overspending.

Are 14-gram chips better than 13.5-gram chips?

Not necessarily. The difference is only half a gram, and both weights have a metal insert, so the bigger choice is design. Many of our 14-gram chips have bold, holographic inlays, while our 13.5-gram Claysmith chips have classic molds and edge spots for a vintage casino look.

Do clay composite poker chips have a metal insert?

Most of ours do. Every 13.5- and 14-gram clay composite chip we carry has a metal insert, which adds weight and gives each chip a solid, casino-style feel.

How many clay composite chips do I need?

For about 6 players, start with 300 chips, or 12 rolls. Most home games with 8 to 10 players need 500 to 600 chips, or 20 to 24 rolls. For tournaments or two tables, plan on 1,000 chips, or 40 rolls.

Will clay composite chips fit my poker chip case?

Yes. All of our clay composite chips are the standard 39mm size, so they fit our poker chip cases and trays, except the models made for oversized 43mm chips.
